EYFS Curriculum
Our dedicated and caring team of staff offer inclusive learning and differentiated approaches, enabling all children to feel listened to and take calculated risks. Within our Early Years, staff model and lead by example, supporting our children to access carefully chosen resources in a safe, challenging and inspiring learning environment. Staff support and scaffold pupils learning when accessing the continuous provision enabling them to apply and consolidate taught skills and knowledge. We value the importance of our outdoor provision, promoting children’s engagement in a task through a different context for a learning environment. Adults provide high quality interactions with the children, both indoors and out, scaffolding their learning and supporting them through the use of modelled play.
Our modelled language and vocabulary enriched environments serve as a useful and fundamental tool for developing those vital communication skills and acquiring knowledge. Developing a passion for reading in our early years, we feel, is crucial to a child’s development as well as a life-long lasting gift that we hope to instil within our children. By inspiring a love of reading we hope to ignite a child’s creativity, spark their curiosity and stimulate their imagination. The enjoyment from books can only help our children to achieve to the best of their ability.
At Blackhall Primary School, we feel that hands on experiences and play are essential for our children’s development; building their confidence as they learn to explore, relate to others, set their own goals and solve problems. Our children become life-long learners by leading their own play, as well as by taking part in play, which is guided by adults. Our compassionate staff develop great relationships with our children and stimulate their interests. They respond to each child’s emerging needs and guide their development through warm, positive interactions, coupled with secure routines for play and learning.
Embedded within our Early Years are wide ranging learning experiences, which broaden our children’s horizons; trips, visits and community participation are regular events in our children’s lives. Parental engagement is extremely important to us at Blackhall Primary School, as we firmly believe that parents are the first educators of the child and by working together, we can help our children to develop their confidence and self-esteem required to be successful learners in Key Stage One and beyond.
Evidence of your child’s progress will be collected on the online ‘Tapestry’ App. Parents are able to view their child’s learning journey and also provide home-learning observations. We really do value your home input and encourage you to upload them into your child’s learning journal.
We continuously assess children against 6 monthly markers. This allows us to target specific needs of the children in our setting. At the end of Reception, the children will be assessed against the 17 Early Learning Goals and their progress is shared with parents.
